MARTA LOURENÇO

"I actually became a winemaker by accident, but that turned out to be the best plot twist I could have ever imagined!"

Becoming a Winemaker

When I was studying, I applied for several courses, and was placed in Agrifood Engineering. During my second year internship, I went to participate in a harvest in the Alejento region, to earn some extra money. After the harvest the oenologue responsible for it all told me that I had what it takes to become a great winemaker, and that I really should follow that path. It felt like my life’s destiny was already set in stone, and I had no way to escape it.

Never Done Learning

I have come a long way since my harvest days, and I have learned a lot. One of the best lessons in life I learned is that there is no dream too big. Hard work, perseverance and dedication pay off, and I believe that is imperative to pass on to the next generation. We need to ensure that the winemaking industry becomes more sustainable, and I know achieving this is possible. This ensures that our vineyards and wines are always improving and kept healthy!

It is important for producers, especially in the sparkling wine sector, to take their work more serious and work better. The sector has such an unfair competition, and not everything is a classic method.

Champagne, Here I Come!

At present, my biggest dream is to make a vintage in Champagne, with Julie Cavil. Like I said before, no dream is too big!

My Made with Maude wines pair very well with chicken roasted in the oven at home, so definitely try this out!
